Yale New Haven is Connecticut's Top Hospital, New Survey Finds

Yale New Haven Hospital has been ranked as Connecticut’s best in a survey published in Newsweek based on data gathered by Statista. In an analysis of hospitals nationwide, this ranking of America's Best-In-State Hospitals 2024 recognizes 600 leading hospitals across the nation, according to Newsweek.

Connecticut’s top five were Yale New Haven; John Dempsey Hospital in Farmington, on the campus of UConn Health; Griffin Hospital in Derby; Midstate Medical Center in Meriden; and Sharon Hospital in Sharon.

The Connecticut hospitals did not break into the top 100 nationwide; Connecticut’s top finisher, Yale New Haven, ranked #110 in the top 600.

Only one of Connecticut’s top five, Sharon Hospital, earned a Patient Satisfaction Award, in the Newsweek survey.

The data analysis included a large nationwide online survey, hospital quality metrics from Medicare and Medicare Services, patient experience data, and Patient Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs) from their hospital stays.

“We are so grateful for the excellence and dedication of our entire team of hospital providers, nurses, and staff in caring for our state’s citizens, always providing them with the very best safety and patient care experience possible,” says Caryl Ryan, RN, Chief Operating Officer for UConn John Dempsey Hospital and UConn Health’s Chief Nursing Officer.

In a related survey, of World’s Best Specialized Hospitals, 12 specialties were ranked.  Yale New Haven ranked #15 for Obstetrics & Gynecology,  #56 for Neurology, #70 for Urology,  #76 for Endocrinology,  #162 for Oncology,  #60 for Cardiology and #142 for Cardiac Surgery.  The only other Connecticut hospitals to earn a place in the world-wide rankings were Hartford Hospital, ranked #243 in Cardiology, and Connecticut Children’s Medical Center, ranked #91 for Pediatrics.
