Avelo Airlines Adds Four U.S. Destinations for Tweed-New Haven Flights

Avelo Airlines, which has been steadily adding routes to and from Tweed-New Haven Airport (HVN) since its inaugural flights in 2021, has announced it will again be expanding service this spring.  The four new nonstop destinations will be Atlanta; Charlotte, North Carolina; Knoxville, Tennessee; and Destin, Florida.

With the addition of these new routes, Avelo will serve 21 nonstop destinations from Tweed, offering more nonstop routes from Connecticut than any other airline operating in the state, according to officials.  The new destinations will begin flying in and out of Tweed-New Haven in May.

Avelo will be the only airline offering nonstop service from Southern Connecticut to these four popular destinations. Additionally, Avelo is the only airline offering nonstop flights from Connecticut to Knoxville and Destin, and the only low-fare airline offering flights to Atlanta and Charlotte, Avelo officials noted.

All four routes will operate on Boeing Next-Generation 737 aircraft. Introductory one-way fares are slated to start at $62; reservations can be made at AveloAir.com.

Atlanta, Georgia via Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport (ATL) begins May 2, and operates four times weekly on Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays; Charlotte, North Carolina via Concord-Padgett Regional Airport (USA) begins May 2, and operates twice weekly on Thursdays and Sundays; Destin / Fort Walton Beach Airport (VPS) begins May 17, and operates twice weekly on Thursdays and Sundays; Knoxville, Tennessee via McGhee Tyson Airport (TYS) begins May 9, and operates twice weekly on Thursdays and Sundays.

“We are excited to offer Southern Connecticut residents even more travel options with the addition of Atlanta, Charlotte, Knoxville and Destin,” said Avelo Airlines Chairman and CEO Andrew Levy.  “Whether visiting friends and family or enjoying a leisurely vacation, Avelo offers time and money-saving convenience for Connecticut travelers. With 21 nonstop destinations, including eight Florida cities, flying from Tweed is easier and more affordable than ever. Additionally, when you consider our industry-leading reliability and caring Soul of Service, it is clear why almost 2 million people have flown Avelo at Tweed since 2021.”

Last month, Avelo announced that it was starting the New Year having achieved the U.S. airline industry’s lowest flight cancellation rate (0.18%) and ranked #2 in on-time performance in 2023.  The airline also reported an 85 percent surge in customer growth during 2023.  The airline also reported that in 2023, 82.8% of all Avelo flights arrived at their destinations within 15 minutes of their scheduled arrival time.  Across the country, Avelo operated 17,000 flights in 2023, a 71% increase over the 10,000 flights the airline operated in 2022.  Avelo added 10 new destinations during 2023, including Puerto Rico, and now flies to 44 destinations spanning 23 states and Puerto Rico.

Avports LLC. CEO Jorge Roberts said, “We are excited that Avelo Airlines continues to expand flights connecting the people and communities of Southern Connecticut to new destinations across the country. These new routes from Avelo mark a significant milestone in Tweed-New Haven Airport’s ongoing efforts to provide more convenient, affordable, and efficient travel options.
