Travelers Championship Will Be Signature Event in 2024 Following Record-Breaking 2023

The Travelers Championship will be one of the PGA TOUR’s Signature Events next year, setting the stage for back-to-back stand-out fields and strong crowds. The Travelers Championship will be held June 17-23 at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, the only PGA TOUR event in New England, and it will once again feature the best players on the PGA TOUR competing for a $20 million purse.

“We are excited that the Travelers Championship will continue to be one of the premier events on the PGA TOUR schedule,” said Travelers Championship Tournament Director Nathan Grube. “We’re fortunate to have such a dedicated and involved title sponsor in Travelers. It’s truly an honor to host this tournament and as the event has grown, it’s been incredibly rewarding to see the impact it has made on local business owners and the people who benefit from the nonprofits we support.”

The 2024 Travelers Championship field will include approximately 70-80 players. In the new format, golfers will compete all four days without being cut, a departure from past practice.

The Travelers Championship announced in late June that the 2023 tournament generated a record amount for charity – more than $3 million for more than 160 nonprofits. The 2023 Travelers Championship was a designated event on the PGA TOUR with an elevated purse of $20 million. The tournament field boasted eight of the top 10 players in the Official World Golf Ranking, and 37 of the top 50.

“We’re thrilled to be a Signature Event next year and to have the opportunity to showcase this incredible tournament on one of the biggest stages in golf,” said Andy Bessette, Executive Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer at Travelers. “As we’ve seen in years past, bringing the best players in the world to Connecticut draws greater crowds, provides significant support for the local economy and enables us to generate substantial funds for hundreds of local charities throughout the region. Ultimately, that’s what drives us to continuously enhance the Travelers Championship experience.”

In 2023, the primary beneficiary was The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp, a nonprofit based in Ashford, Connecticut, that provides care and a traditional camp experience to children with serious illnesses and their families through programs celebrating the fun, friendship and spirit of childhood. Other tournament charities support important causes such as education, housing, human services and mental health.

To qualify, players must meet one of the following criteria:

•         Finish in the top 50 of the 2023 FedExCup standings through the playoffs;

•         Be in the top 10 of the current year FedExCup standings through the 2024 U.S. Open;

•         Be one of the top 5 FedExCup point earners through a “swing” of three tournaments: Myrtle Beach Classic, Charles Schwab Challenge, RBC Canadian Open;

•         Win a PGA TOUR event in the 2024 season;

•         Be one of the top 30 PGA TOUR members in the Official World Golf Ranking through the U.S. Open;

•         Be the defending champion; or meet other standards outlined on the PGA TOUR website.

The Travelers Championship has long supporting the community and donates 100% of its net proceeds to charities. More than $28 million has been generated by the tournament for over 900 local charities since 2007, when Travelers became title sponsor. Tournament details are available at TravelersChampionship.com.

“We are grateful for the support shown by the best fans and players on TOUR, and the countless others who have helped us grow this event into the elite tournament that it is today,” added Bessette.  “We are looking forward to seeing everyone next year.”
