Two Connecticut Colleges Rank in Top 10 Online Criminal Justice Master's Programs in U.S.

Two Connecticut universities have been selected by Forbes Advisor as having among the 10 best online criminal justice master’s programs in the nation.

The rankings placed the criminal justice master’s program offered online by Albertus Magnus College as the 5th best and the University of New Haven’s program ranked 9th.  Two Massachusetts universities – Northeastern University and Boston University – topped the rankings.

The team at Forbes Advisor scored 54 accredited, nonprofit colleges offering online master’s in criminal justice degree programs in the U.S. using 16 data points in the categories of credibility, affordability, student outcomes, student experience and application process.

Regarding the Albertus Magnus program, Forbes points out “In the online MS in criminal justice, learners complete a mandatory research project and thesis capstone, plus a 150-internship if they choose. Classes run through five accelerated eight-week sessions each year, and learners can take up to two courses each session.”  The college offers the MS in Criminal Justice with concentrations in Correctional Health Care Management, Corrections Administration, Juvenile Justice and Public Adminisration.

The ranking of the University of New Haven was driven by factors including these: “One of more than 25 online programs, the online MS in criminal justice prepares (students) for leadership and administrative positions.  To graduate, (students) complete courses in sessions lasting between six and seven and a half weeks, plus a comprehensive exam. Along with the typical financial aid programs, the University of New Haven offers 50% tuition discounts to public safety professionals.”

“Albertus is singled out for numerous reasons, one being the flexibility of the online degree program. Another differentiator is that our students complete a mandatory research project and thesis capstone which highlights our emphasis on experiential learning,” said Dr. Rosa Rivera-Hainaj, Albertus Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of Faculty. “Our graduates obtain the critical thinking skills needed to deal with complex and ever-changing issues.”
