Healthcare and Education Among Key Industries in State's Largest Communities

A review of the key employers in Connecticut’s 15 largest cities and towns reveals a handful of industries among the most frequently represented.

They’re led by healthcare, represented by Visiting Nurse Services of CT, Stamford Health, Yale New Haven Health, Hartford Healthcare, St. Mary’s Hospital, Nuvance Health, Hospital of Central CT,  Hospital for Special Care, Hospital of Central CT, Greenwich Hospital, Bristol Health, and MidState Medical Center.

Education also stands out, as seen by the presence of Yale University, Southern Connecticut State University, Central Connecticut State University, Post University, Fairfield University, Sacred Heart University, and Quinnipiac University.

Among the well-known names among each of the 15 largest communities key businesses are NBC Sports and ESPN, Bigelow Tea and Amazon, Aetna and Travelers,  Stanley – Black & Decker and Xerox.

The state’s largest communities are Bridgeport, Stamford, New Haven, Hartford, Waterbury, Norwalk, Danbury, New Britain, Greenwich, West Hartford, Fairfield, Bristol, Hamden, Meriden and Manchester.

Each of those communities, including the most recent population numbers, and the five key employers in each town, according to data compiled by the Connecticut Data Collaborative for Advance CT, and published online earlier this year.  More information and data is available in the Town Profiles, which can be seen here:  https://profiles.ctdata.org/
