Amazon Plans to Add 5,800 Jobs in CT as Holiday Season Approaches

Amazon has announced plans to hire 5,800 workers in Connecticut to support operations as the holiday season approaches.  The new jobs in Connecticut are part of Amazon’s plans to 250,000 employees throughout the U.S. in full-time, seasonal, and part-time roles across its operations network.

A diverse range of roles—from packing and picking to sorting and shipping—are available to applicants from all backgrounds and experience levels. Customer fulfillment and transportation employees can earn, on average, over $20.50 per hour for those roles, and up to $28 depending on location.

Amazon currently has approximately 16,000 employees in Connecticut, with large fulfillment centers in North Haven and Windsor along with several smaller sorting and delivery hubs, as well as Whole Foods Markets in nine cities and towns, according to published reports.   In addition, Amazon's One Medical, which provides access to its network of health care physicians for an annual $199 subscription, opened locations in Darien and New Canaan in recent months.

Amazon also shared its latest investment and economic impact data for Connecticut.  Since 2010, Amazon reports it has invested more than $7.2 billion in Connecticut, including infrastructure and compensation to employees, and has created more than 15,000 direct jobs here.

These investments support an additional 13,300 indirect jobs across the state, in fields like construction and professional services, and have contributed more than $6.5 billion to the Connecticut GDP, on top of the company’s direct investments, Amazon points out.

“Amazon continues to be a great partner, investor and job creator in our state, as this new data clearly demonstrates,” said Alexandra Daum, Commissioner of the Connecticut Department of Economic and Community Development. “Their commitment to Connecticut is clear and the positive ripple effects of their large-scale investments here will be felt for decades to come.”

Jobs in Amazon’s operations network include stowing, picking, packing, sorting, shipping customer orders, and more, according to the company, and are available in hundreds of cities and towns across the nation.

“The holiday season is always a special time at Amazon and we’re excited to hire 250,000 additional people this year to help serve customers across the country,” said John Felton, Amazon’s Senior Vice President of Worldwide Operations.
