The tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut on December 14, 2012 spurred the establishment of numerous organizations dedicated to urging legislative action at the state and federal level, many honoring the memory of students killed on that day, in the months that followed. It also led to new gun safety laws in Connecticut - a state that has not been part of the increases in such incidents in states across the country.
