Bridgeport Region Among Top 20 in USA for Number of Nonprofits

Reaching the top 20 at number 20, the Bridgeport-Stamford-Norwalk metropolitan area has among the highest concentration of nonprofit organizations of any region in the country.  According to a new analysis published in GOVERNING magazine, the Bridgeport metro area has a total of 1,391 nonprofits, which translates to 14.7 per 10,000 population.

The communities with the highest concentration of nonprofits per 10,000 population are Barnstable, MA; Pittsfield, Sante Fe, Missoula, Ithaca, Springfield (IL), Trenton, Bismarck, Burlington-South Burlington (VT), Madison (WI), Napa (CA), and Boulder (CO). 

The Hartford-West Hartford – East Hartford metro area has 1,576 nonprofits – the largest number of any of Connecticut’s metro areas - at 13.1 per 10,000 residents.  The New Haven-Milford metro area, with 1,082 nonprofits, has 12.6 nonprofits per 10,000 residents.
