10 Connecticut Organizations Earn Spot on Forbes List of America's Best Large Employers
/Forbes magazine’s annual list of America’s Best Large Employers includes 10 Connecticut companies in 2022, representing numerous industries, various locations across the state, and the State itself.
“Two years into a pandemic that’s forever transformed the workplace,” Forbes points out, “whether working from home or the office, Americans’ priorities have changed, and what makes a top employer has changed, too.”
Forbes partnered with market research firm Statista to compile our list by surveying 60,000 Americans working for businesses with at least 1,000 employees. They were asked to rate, on a scale of zero to ten, how likely they’d be to recommend their employer. They were also asked to rate their companies on factors such as working conditions, development opportunities and compensation.
The final list ranks the 500 large employers that received the most recommendations. Three Connecticut-based organizations earned a place in the Top 50:
#12 Yale University: The Ivy League institution based in New Haven.
#32 Stanley Black & Decker: The power tool focused manufacturer, previously known as Stanley Works, is based in New Britain.
#40 United Rentals: The world's largest equipment rental company is based in Stamford.
They were followed by two more Connecticut organizations in the Top 150:
#157 Yale New Haven Health, in the healthcare services industry.
#196 The Hartford based in in the nation’s "Insurance Capital."
Other organizations reaching the Top 500 were:
#309 Cigna, based in Bloomfield, is another insurance industry giant.
#333 Pitney Bowes, based in Stamford, in the transportation and logistics business.
#391 Gartner is a research and consulting firm headquartered in Stamford.
#396 State of Connecticut.
#449 XPO Logistics is a transportation company based in Greenwich.
Also of note, Lockheed Martin, owner of Sikorsky Aircraft, ranked #41 and Massachusetts-based Raytheon Technologies, which absorbed Connecticut’s United Technologies, ranked at #200. General Dynamics, which operates Electric Boat, ranked #206. Travelers ranked #239. M&T Bank, which is in the midst of its purchase of Connecticut-based Peoples United, ranked #241.
Overall, education was the most-represented industry on America’s Best Employers, and healthcare companies made up roughly a quarter of the top 50 and half of the top 10. The restaurant industry fell the most, with just 11 companies earning spots on the 2022 list, down from 29 in 2021, according to Forbes.
The Top 12 in the nation were The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, Southern Company, NASA, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, Michelin Group, Sherwin-Williams, Mayo Clinic, Carvana, university of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, and MD Anderson Cancer Center, Hll, and Yale University.
